Hi Tiffany! You’ve got so much great stuff going on!
Between your long-term experience, living location independent, and doing all that as a parent, I’m betting you’ve got a ton of insight into freelancing.
Your income goal is wonderful…I’m actually planning on pushing rates this year myself…if enough people are interested, we might focus the next month of getting clients (May) on increasing rates. In the meantime, if you haven’t already, check out our day course on choosing a specialization (it can make a HUGE difference in the rates you can charge.)
What kind of writing do you do btw?
July 7, 2016 at 8:43 AM #2795Hi Everyone,
I’m Asa and I’m working on starting a freelance writing career so that I can eventually work for myself fulltime. I own the blog http://www.makeupandmania.com and work fulltime as a digital media strategist. On my blog I focus on a mix of beauty and mental health because they are my two passions. I’m hoping to learn how and where to begin a freelance career because it feels like a daunting task right now.

February 13, 2017 at 11:19 PM #3526Hello everyone,
My name is Brandon Hammothe and I have a Bachelors in Computer Information Technology and am currently pursuing my Masters in Biometrics. I have done web design on the side off and on for several years as well but not enough to replace my current day jobs income. My current day job is software engineering coupled with automated testing. I also invest in real estate and websites as well. I am excited to start my freelance journey to increase my income and continue my investments. I look forward to learning with all the wonderful people in this program to free ourselves from the corporate work structure. 🙂

February 15, 2017 at 10:57 AM #3535Hi Everyone,
I’m John a health and wellness copywriter based in Trinidad and Tobago. Originally from the UK with a degree in sport therapy, I’ve been freelancing for the last two years.
I enjoy writing and keep my skills sharp by studying winning sales packages to see what’s currently working in copy.
I look forward to learning from BlackFreelance.com and progressing to freelancer success.
Great meeting you all!

March 28, 2017 at 10:31 AM #3832Hi, everyone! My name is Colette, and I am based in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. I want to be a freelance writer and am trying to figure out how to find/make freelance work. I am currently working part-time, but I have been reading about freelancing for several years. I didn’t finish college, but I majored in Journalism, then English when I attended. I worked full-time in state government for about 8 years, overseeing the use of federal grant funds for different programs. Before that, I worked in administrative support in many places.
My “patchwork” work experience has made it harder for me to figure out what type of writing to start with as far as freelancing. I’ve tried to figure out how to apply my experience to freelance work, but I’m still lost. I have a couple of old news clips from a couple of union publications.
My long-term goal would be to support myself through freelance work. But I’m happy to start small and figure out things as I go.
April 5, 2017 at 9:00 AM #3877Hello Everyone,
My name is Mercedes. I have dreamed of being a freelance copywriter for a long time now, really I just dream of being in charge of my own time. I have a Bachelor’s in Communications, but soon after graduating from college fell into a career that I knew was not for me (Retail Management). And so twelve years later, I’m really trying to get myself back on course doing something I enjoy and having the freedom to enjoy life. I do have a Master’s degree in Internet Marketing and I’ve started building my freelance website. I’m struggling to focus on a niche, finding any kind of focus is hard when still working a day job.
My goal is to build up a freelance career on the side until I’m financially ready to quit my day job. I fantasize of that great and glorious day all the time.
So glad I found this site, I really feel like you’re speaking the desires of my heart in terms of leaving the world of standard employment. I look forward to learning more and developing my skills here. Thank you.
April 15, 2017 at 7:02 PM #3944Welcome Colette!
I wanted to ask if you’ve ever tried leveraging your government contacts or knowledge specifically? I run across government-focused gigs occasionally and with your experience, I can really see you taking advantage of some of that. Something like these or these (under Government).

April 15, 2017 at 7:07 PM #3945Hi Mercedes!
Retail is a good niche…especially with your ridiculously strong background in Internet marketing!
Have you ever looked at applying as a contributor for Samsung Insight’s retail vertical? (Click on “Contributors” and if you’re on a desktop, you’ll see the application form to the right.)
But between that and all the retail trade mags, software companies and other businesses, I think you can carve out a great space for yourself.
April 15, 2017 at 8:15 PM #3946Megan, thank you for those links, especially the Government Express site. I thought that trade publications would be a good starting point for me as a newbie writer. I wanted to send out letters of introduction, but I hadn’t found many trade mags related to government.
April 18, 2017 at 2:21 PM #3970Great Colette! Trade mags are always a solid place to start.
