To boil it down, freelancing is working without a commitment to a long-term employer.
This site focuses on work that can be done online, but most jobs out there can be done on freelance terms. It isn’t as inherently secure as a traditional job (which aren’t that secure anymore themselves these days), but provides flexibility, control, and options that are particularly important to Black people.
It’s something everyone in the new and Internet-based work world should try, even if they love their full-time job. Freelancing got me through a spot between a layoff and launching my consulting company, and I still do it because of some of the other professional benefits it provides.
It can be difficult, but is ultimately rewarding, and freeing on many levels when compared with traditional employment models.
